Vegetarian Diet Food for Preventing Childhood Obesity

Did you know that vegetarian diet can help prevent childhood obesity, and that families which follow a vegetarian diet are less likely to experience obesity problems in both adult and children. The obesity problem in America is becoming worse year after year, and now, even more problematic is the fact that our children are becoming fatter and fatter.

For example, a survey found that from the early 1980's up to the late 2000's, children are fatter, heavier, and weaker, where 17% of all children are overweight. There are a number of reasons why this is so - starting off with poor diet and eating habits, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle, and the list goes on.

Leading by example... the statistics are even more grim for adults, where 34% of adults are considered overweight or obese. By being overweight, you are at increased weight related health risks. Because of the obesity epidemic, the fat loss industry is huge with all types of weight loss diets, fat burner and diet pills, and magical gadgets that are supposed to make your fat melt away without you putting much effort into it. Unfortunately, most of these "gadgets" never work, and are only a waste of money.

The fundamental core to any successful weight loss plan, or program to prevent obesity are two aspects: 1) exercise and training, and 2) diet and nutrition. Exercise and training is beyond the scope of our article here, but we will discuss how good diet and nutrition will not only help you improve your health, but it'll even help prevent childhood obesity - a major problem in America.

There are many diets out there - some are decent, while others are simply a waste of time and money; however, one type of diet, has withstood the test of time for being health, and that is the vegetarian diet. There is no shortage of studies finding vegetarian diet foods can help improve health. There are also studies that have found vegetarian diet food can help prevent childhood obesity.

One US study have found that vegetarian diets help prevent childhood obesity. This study stated that: "The increased prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity is not unique to industrialized societies; dramatic increases are occurring in urbanized areas of developing countries. In light of the consensus that obesity is a significant public health concern and that many weight-loss interventions have been unsuccessful in the long term, an exploration of food patterns that are beneficial in the primary prevention of obesity is warranted."

This study reviewed the link between vegetarian diets and obesity, and particularly childhood obesity. The study stated that "Epidemiologic studies indicate that vegetarian diets are associated with a lower body mass index (BMI) and a lower prevalence of obesity in adults and children." It is estimated that vegetarian diets reduced weight by 7.6kg for men and 3.3kg for women - resulting in 2-point lower BMI. At the same time, vegetarian children are leaner, and also have a lower BMI, and studies have indicated that vegetarian diet food is a sensible approach to prevent obesity in children. [1]

One of the key health benefits of vegetarian diet foods is that they are low in energy density, and high in complex carbohydrates, fiber, and water, which may increase satiety and resting energy expenditure. Because of this, studies have suggested that vegetarian diet foods should be followed to support optimal health benefits.

With that in mind - if your diet is not a healthy as it should be - isn't it time that you took the initiative to improve you and your family's diet and enjoy better health and lower risk of illnesses associated with being overweight? Start now, discover the health benefits of improving you and your family's health with Chinese vegetarian cooking.
