Body Mass Index (BMI)

The Body Mass Index (BMI) will help you determine your ideal weight range. Being obese will put you at risk for coronary artery disease, and high blood pressure, among others. The Body Mass Index (BMI) provides a reliable way to determine whether your over weight or not, and find out if you're at risk for obese associated diseases.

Here how to use the Body Mass Index (BMI):

Find your height in the left column, and follow it across to find a weight that's closest to your body weight. Then work your way up to find your Body Mass Index (BMI). Then refer to the second chart to determine if you are at risk for obese related diseases.

For example, I'm about 5'7" weighing 140lbs. I would have a BMI of 22.

Now that I know my Body Mass Index, I can use the second BMI chart below to find out if I'm at risk.

This 2nd BMI chart helps you determine if you're at risk for obese related disease after finding out your Body Mass Index (BMI). Here's how: in the left column, find the range where your BMI stands, then work your way to the right and find out if you're at risk.

Example continued: I have a Body Mass Index of 22, which is in the 2nd row (normal), so it tells me that I'm not at any risk.

You can do this for yourself.
